our history
♥
Homer's Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was created in 2008 by Dr. Amy MacKay, a feline veterinarian in Cleveland, Ohio, to help provide care for the large number of cats taken in by her vet clinic through the years. The organization was named for Homer, the brave cat pictured above, who was badly burned in a house fire in 2004. Dr. Amy took Homer into her clinic, providing life-saving medical and surgical care for him. This small cat's resilience, determination, and loving nature in the face of extreme adversity remains an inspiration. Learn more about Homer!

our cats
♥
Since 2003, nearly 150 cats have been cared for by Homer's Fund. While a few were former patients, most were sadly just abandoned anonymously. Through the years, over 100 of these wonderful cats were adopted into new homes, while the remainder stayed on as clinic cats due to their special needs. While Dr. Amy's health issues necessitated the closure of her clinic in 2017, many fabulous feline residents still remain—check out their photos below, and then learn more about them! We are doing everything possible to allow them to live the rest of their days in their happy Nine Lives sanctuary home.

our center
♥
In addition to housing our sanctuary, Dr. Amy's former clinic now provides two premium services for the Cleveland cat community. Through Nine Lives Cat Center, healthy cats can receive wellness care—e.g. exams, vaccinations, and screening tests—along with an array of grooming services. And, at Hotel Homer, we provide comfortable, worry-free boarding for your cats. Cats who receive medication or who have other specialized needs are particularly welcome. We are proud to offer feline-specific wellness and boarding care. We hope to see you soon!

your support
♥
The generosity of Dr. Amy's clients and other cat lovers has helped to sustain Homer's Fund for many years. More recently, our wellness, grooming, and boarding services have been subsidizing our charitable operations. However, business has recently been suspended/delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, and therefore we need your help more than ever. We know these are challenging times for everyone, but we hope you will check out the many ways in which you can become a Homer Hero and truly make a difference in these deserving cats' lives. THANK YOU!
