our history
💗
Homer's Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was created in 2008 by Dr. Amy MacKay, a feline veterinarian in Cleveland, Ohio, to help provide care for the large number of cats taken in by her vet clinic through the years. The organization was named for Homer, the brave cat pictured above, who was badly burned in a house fire in 2004. Dr. Amy took Homer into her clinic, providing life-saving medical and surgical care for him. This small cat's resilience, determination, and loving nature in the face of extreme adversity remains an inspiration. Learn more about Homer! |
our cats
💗
Since 2003, Homer's Fund has taken in more than 150 cats in need—most abandoned, some rescued, some signed over due to hardship. All were adopted into new homes or welcomed as clinic cats. Through the years, over 50 special cats have called Nine Lives home, including our current residents—check out their profile pages and photos below. We have transitioned into a senior sanctuary (i.e. no adoptions) and are sometimes able to take in new eligible senior cats in need. Learn more about our Apricity senior sanctuary program here! |
our center
💗
In addition to housing our sanctuary, Dr. Amy's restructured clinic features two premium services. Through Nine Lives Cat Center, healthy cats can receive wellness care—e.g. exams, vaccinations, and screening tests—along with an array of grooming services. And our Hotel Homer offers comfortable, worry-free boarding for cats. Cats who require medication or who have other specialized needs are particularly welcome. We are proud to provide these high-quality, in-demand services to the Cleveland cat community. |
your support
💗
The generosity of Dr. Amy's clients and other cat lovers has helped to sustain Homer's Fund for many years. More recently, our wellness, grooming, and boarding services have been subsidizing our charitable endeavors. We are striving to improve and expand these operations, and also to increase the capacity of our sanctuary. During these continued challenging times, we appreciate your help more than ever. Please check out the many ways in which you can become a Homer Hero and truly make a difference in these deserving cats' lives. THANK YOU! |
